p47phox also known as NOXO2, SH3PXD1A, NCF1 is a 47 kDa cytosolic subunit of neutrophil NADPH oxidase. p47phox plays a crucial role in the immune response by participating in the activation of the NADPH oxidase complex, which is essential for the production of reactive oxygen species in neutrophils and other phagocytic cells. This process is vital for the destruction of pathogens, and mutations in p47phox have been linked to chronic granulomatous disease, a hereditary condition that impairs the immune system′s ability to fight infections. p47phox structure includes two Src homology 3 (SH3) domains, which are important for interaction with p67-phox, another key component of the NADPH oxidase complex. |
