| Product Description | |
EAAT2(Excitatory amino acid transporter 2) also known as GLT-1, SLC1A2 is a member of a family of solute transporter proteins. EAAT2 plays a crucial role in the central nervous system by mediating the uptake of the excitatory neurotransmitter L-glutamate, which is vital for maintaining synaptic homeostasis and preventing excitotoxicity. EAAT2 protein is predominantly localized in astrocytes and is essential for clearing excess glutamate from the synaptic cleft following neurotransmission, thereby protecting neurons from potential damage caused by glutamate accumulation. Proper functioning of EAAT2 is critical for normal brain function, as dysregulation of glutamate transport can lead to various neurological disorders, including epilepsy, neurodegenerative diseases, and mood disorders. |
