| Product Description | |
ABCA1 also known as ABC1 is a member of the superfamily of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters. ABCA1 plays a crucial role in lipid metabolism by facilitating the efflux of cholesterol and phospholipids from cells, which is vital for maintaining cellular homeostasis and preventing the accumulation of lipids that can lead to atherosclerosis. ABCA1 protein is predominantly located in the plasma membrane of various cell types, including macrophages, where ABCA1 is essential for the formation of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and the regulation of cholesterol levels in the body. Mutations in the ABCA1 gene are associated with Tangier disease, a condition characterized by severely low levels of HDL cholesterol, underscoring the importance of ABCA1 in cardiovascular health. |
