| Product Description | |
CaSR is an integral membrane protein that plays a crucial role in calcium homeostasis by detecting and responding to changes in extracellular calcium levels. CaSR is primarily located in the parathyroid glands and kidneys, where CaSR functions as a sensor to regulate calcium concentration in the bloodstream. CaSR′s location is crucial for modulating parathyroid hormone secretion and renal calcium reabsorption, thereby maintaining calcium balance in the body. Mutations in CaSR can lead to significant disorders, such as autosomal dominant hypocalcemia and familial hypocalciuric hypercalcemia, highlighting CaSR′s critical role in calcium metabolism. CaSR is also expressed in other tissues, including the intestine, placenta, and brain, indicating CaSR′s diverse physiological functions. |
