Cyclin A2 also known as CCNA2 is a member of the highly conserved cyclin family. Cyclin A2 plays a vital role in regulating cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) that are essential for cell cycle progression. Cyclin A2 is primarily located in the nucleus, where cyclin A2 binds and activates CDC2 or CDK2 kinases, facilitating the transitions between the G1/S and G2/M phases of the cell cycle. This nuclear localization ensures cyclin A2 availability at the right time and place to promote DNA replication and synthesis, which are critical for cell division. Cyclin A2 is expressed in all tissues tested, contrasting with cyclin A1, which is restricted to germ cells, highlighting cyclin A2′s importance in a wide range of cellular processes. As cells prepare to enter mitosis, cyclin A2 undergoes rapid degradation, underscoring cyclin A2′s role in the precise timing of cell cycle events.
