| Product Description | |
CYP1B1(Cytochrome P450 1B1) is a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. CYP1B1 plays a crucial role in the metabolism of estrogens, particularly in the conversion of 17-beta-estradiol into catechol estrogen metabolites, such as 2-hydroxyestradiol and 4-hydroxyestradiol, which have been implicated in the development of breast cancer. CYP1B1 activity is significant because these metabolites can form DNA adducts, leading to mutations and potentially initiating carcinogenesis in mammary tissues. CYP1B1 is the predominant member of the cytochrome P450 family expressed in normal breast tissue and is upregulated in breast cancer, highlighting CYP1B1′s importance in both normal physiology and disease states. |
