| Product Description | |
Factor X also known as F10 is a crucial component in the blood coagulation cascade, playing a vital role in hemostasis following tissue injury. This vitamin K-dependent serine protease is synthesized in the liver and circulates as an inactive precursor until activated through cleavage by either Factor IX A or Factor VII A. The activation process transforms Factor X into Factor X A, which is essential for forming the prothrombinase complex alongside Factor V A and calcium ions on platelet or endothelial cell surfaces. This complex converts prothrombin into active thrombin, a key step in generating fibrin clots and platelet aggregation. Deficiencies in Factor X due to mutations at the Factor X locus can lead to serious bleeding disorders, highlighting Factor X ′s critical role in maintaining hemostatic balance. |
