FLT4 also known as VEGFR-3 is a receptor tyrosine kinase that plays a crucial role in lymphangiogenesis and lymphatic system development. FLT4 is primarily located on endothelial cell surfaces, where FLT4 regulates lymphatic vessel formation and maintenance. Proper FLT4 function is essential for fluid homeostasis and immune response, facilitating immune cell transport and interstitial fluid drainage. Dysregulation of FLT4 signaling has been implicated in various pathological conditions, including cancer metastasis and lymphedema, making FLT4 a significant therapeutic target. Seven immunoglobulin-like domains in FLT4′s structure contribute to high-affinity ligand binding, similar to related receptors Flt-1 and Flk-1, which interact with vascular endothelial growth factors. |
