Product Description

TCF4(Transcription factor 4) also known as ITF2 is a basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor. TCF4 recognizes an Ephrussi-box ('E-box') binding site ('CANNTG') - a motif first identified in immunoglobulin enhancers. TCF4 plays a crucial role in the regulation of gene expression, particularly in muscle development, by binding to specific DNA motifs such as the immunoglobulin enhancer Mu-E5/KE5-motif and the Ephrussi-box (E-box) element found in SSTR2-INR, thereby acting as a transcriptional activator for muscle-specific genes. TCF4 can form homo- or hetero-oligomers with other myogenic factors like myogenin and MyoD, allowing for a complex regulatory network that can either activate or repress transcription depending on the isoform present. This dynamic interaction is essential for proper muscle differentiation and development, highlighting TCF4′s importance in both embryonic and adult tissues, including the heart, brain, and skeletal muscle.
