GDF9 plays a crucial role in ovarian folliculogenesis, which is essential for female fertility. GDF-9 is primarily expressed in the ovary, where GDF9 regulates the growth and differentiation of ovarian follicles, thereby influencing reproductive processes. GDF9 interacts with other growth factors, such as GDF8 (also known as myostatin), which is a negative regulator of muscle growth, highlighting the intricate network of signaling pathways that govern developmental and physiological processes. Absence or dysfunction of GDF9 can lead to reproductive disorders, underscoring GDF9′s importance in maintaining ovarian function and overall fertility. |
