IL-2Rγ(Interleukin 2 Receptor Gamma) also known as IL-2Rgamma, IL2RG is an important signaling component of many interleukin receptors, including those of interleukin -2, -4, -7 and -21, and is thus referred to as the common gamma chain. IL-2Rγ is primarily located on the surface of immune cells, such as T cells, where IL-2Rγ facilitates high-affinity binding of interleukins, thereby triggering essential signaling pathways that promote T cell proliferation and differentiation. IL-2Rγ is vital for the proper functioning of these cytokine receptors, as IL-2Rγ enhances ligand binding and ensures effective immune responses. Importantly, mutations or deficiencies in IL-2Rγ can lead to severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID), highlighting IL-2Rγ′s significance in maintaining immune system integrity.
