IL-11(Interleukin-11) also known as AGIF is a member of the gp130 family of cytokines. IL-11 plays a crucial role in immune regulation and inflammation, being biologically related to other cytokines such as IL-6, leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF), oncostatin M (OSM), and ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF). IL-11 is primarily secreted by stromal cells and is essential for stimulating the proliferation of primitive hematopoietic progenitor cells, which is vital for maintaining healthy blood cell production. Additionally, IL-11 works in conjunction with Flt 3-L to promote the expansion of CD34+ cell populations, which are critical for hematopoiesis. IL-11 exerts effects through the interleukin-11 receptor, IL-11R, composed of an IL-11 receptor-specific chain, IL-11Rα, and gp130, a common signal transducing component for several related receptors.
