Product Description

MFN2 also known as mitochondrial fusion 2, Mitofusin-2 is a mitochondrial membrane protein that participates in mitochondrial fusion and contributes to the maintenance and operation of the mitochondrial network. MFN2 plays a critical role in mitochondrial dynamics by mediating the fusion of mitochondria, which is essential for maintaining mitochondrial function and cellular energy homeostasis. This process is particularly important in tissues with high energy demands, such as heart and muscle, where MFN2 is abundantly expressed. Proper functioning of MFN2 is crucial for embryonic development and has been implicated in the pathobiology of various metabolic disorders, including obesity. Notably, MFN2 interacts with other proteins involved in mitochondrial dynamics, such as MFN1, and these interactions are vital for the formation of mitochondrial networks that support cellular metabolism.
