Product Description | |
MTTP also known as MTP, ABL is a heterodimer composed of MTP and protein disulfide isomerase (PDI), and MTP activity is tightly regulated by insulin and cholesterol levels, highlighting its importance in maintaining lipid homeostasis. MTP plays a crucial role in lipid metabolism by facilitating the transport of cholesteryl esters, triglycerides, and phospholipids between phospholipid surfaces, which is essential for the proper secretion of plasma lipoproteins that contains apolipoprotein B. MTP is primarily localized in the endoplasmic reticulum and is predominantly expressed in the small intestine and liver, with additional expression in the kidney, testis, and ovary, but MTP is notably absent in epithelial cells. Deficiencies in the MTP gene can lead to abetalipoproteinemia (ABL), an autosomal recessive disorder that disrupts lipoprotein metabolism, underscoring the significance of MTP in human health. |
