NLRC4 also konwn as CARD12 is a member of the caspase recruitment domain-containing NLR family. NLRC4 is predominantly expressed in bone marrow, with lower expression levels in lymph nodes, placenta, spleen, and brain tissues, highlighting significance in immune responses and hematopoiesis. NLRC4 features a nucleotide-binding site domain specific for ATP/dATP, allowing engagement in critical interactions with other proteins, including self-association and interaction with ASC (apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a CARD), which promotes apoptosis and inflammatory signaling pathways. NLRC4′s ability to modulate these processes underscores potential as a target for therapeutic interventions in diseases characterized by dysregulated apoptosis and inflammation.
