AKAP1 also known as AKAP149 is a member of the AKAP family. AKAP1 plays a crucial role in the spatial and temporal regulation of signaling pathways by anchoring protein kinase A (PKA) to specific cellular locations, which is essential for maintaining PKA signaling specificity. This compartmentalization allows for precise control over various cellular processes, including metabolism, gene expression, and cell growth. AKAP1 a splice variant of S-AKAP84, is particularly important in the phosphorylation-dependent regulation of RNA processing, highlighting its role in gene expression regulation.
