| Product Description | |
IRP1 also known as IRP-1, ACO1 is a bifunctional, cytosolic protein that functions as an essential enzyme in the TCA cycle and interacts with mRNA to control the levels of iron inside cells. IRP1 plays a crucial role in iron metabolism, which is vital for maintaining cellular homeostasis. IRP1 functions as a regulatory factor that modulates iron uptake and storage in response to cellular iron levels and stress signals. Specifically, IRP1 can bind to iron-responsive elements (IREs) in mRNA, thereby influencing the translation of proteins involved in iron transport and storage. This regulatory mechanism is essential because dysregulation of iron homeostasis can lead to various diseases, including anemia and neurodegenerative disorders. |
