Ezh1 also known as KMT6B, ENX-2 is a component of a noncanonical Polycomb repressive complex-2 (PRC2). Ezh1 plays a crucial role in chromatin regulation and is characterized by the presence of a SET domain, which is essential for histone methylation function. This post-translational modification influences gene expression by altering chromatin structure, thereby impacting cellular processes such as differentiation and development. Ezh1 is expressed ubiquitously in both adult and fetal tissues, suggesting importance in maintaining heterochromatin stability, which is critical for genomic integrity. Human Ezh1 is located on chromosome 17q21, and expression patterns indicate a significant role in the central and peripheral nervous systems, as well as in fetal hematopoiesis during development. |
