| Product Description | |
Follistatin is a single-chain gonadal protein that specifically inhibits follicle-stimulating hormone release. Follistatin plays a crucial role in reproductive physiology as a high-affinity binding protein for activin, which is essential for regulating the release of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Follistatin is primarily located in the extracellular space, where follistatin interacts with activins and inhibins, members of the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) superfamily. Extracellular localization of follistatin is significant because follistatin allows for the modulation of local signaling pathways, influencing various physiological processes such as cell growth, differentiation, and reproductive functions. |
