Product Description

Synaptophysin also konwn as SYP is an integral membrane protein found mainly in neurons and endocrine cells, playing a vital role in synaptic vesicle formation and recycling. SYP features N-glycosylation and forms hexameric complexes that contribute to large conductance channel formation. SYP contains four transmembrane domains and functions similarly to gap junctions for cell-to-cell communication. Membrane cholesterol specifically interacts with SYP, influencing vesicle formation and dynamics. Synaptobrevin (VAMP) forms a complex with SYP that increases during neuronal development, though not essential for exocytosis. Brain myosin V′s tail domain creates a stable complex with synaptobrevin II and SYP, which dissociates upon calcium influx during depolarization, demonstrating dynamic protein interactions in synaptic function.
