Product Description | |
CD71 also known as Transferrin Receptor, TR, TFR, TFRC is a type II membrane glycoprotein forming a disulfide-linked homodimer of two identical subunits. CD71 maintains iron homeostasis by binding to transferrin, a serum iron-transport protein, and facilitates cellular iron uptake through receptor-mediated endocytosis. CD71 expression remains high in proliferating cells, reticulocytes, and erythroid precursors, while staying absent in resting leukocytes but becoming upregulated upon activation of lymphocytes, monocytes, and macrophages. CD71 appears on most dividing cells and brain endothelium, showing significance in hematopoiesis and neurobiology. |
