Cytokeratin 15 also known as Keratin 15, CK15, KRT15 is a member of the keratin gene family. Cytokeratin 15 plays a crucial role in maintaining the mechanical integrity of epithelial cells, particularly in the hair follicle. Cytokeratin 15 is predominantly located in the hair-follicle bulge, where Cytokeratin 15 serves as a specific marker for stem cells, highlighting Cytokeratin 15′s importance in hair follicle biology and regeneration. Cytokeratin 15 expression is significant in distinguishing between basal cell carcinoma and trichoepithelioma, as both conditions exhibit overlapping morphological features that can complicate diagnosis.
