Calponin-1 also known as CNN1 is a thin filament associated protein is implicated in the regulation and modulation of smooth muscle contraction. Calponin-1 plays a crucial role in regulating smooth muscle contraction and serves as a marker for smooth muscle cell differentiation. Calponin-1 is primarily located in smooth muscle cell cytoplasm, where Calponin-1 interacts with actin and tropomyosin to modulate the contractile apparatus. This localization allows precise regulation of muscle contraction, essential for blood vessel constriction and gastrointestinal motility.
