| Product Description | |
AIF is a flavoprotein essential for nuclear disassembly in apoptotic cells, and it is found in the mitochondrial intermembrane space in healthy cells. AIF plays a crucial role in caspase-independent apoptosis. Upon apoptotic stimuli, AIF translocates from the mitochondria to the nucleus, inducing chromatin condensation and large-scale DNA fragmentation, which are key features of programmed cell death. The mitochondrial localization of AIF is important because AIF release links mitochondrial dysfunction to cell death mechanisms, contributing to various pathological conditions such as neurodegenerative diseases and cancer. Understanding AIF′s cellular location and function is significant for studying diseases where apoptosis is dysregulated. |
