| Product Description | |
DLAT also known as PDC-E2 plays a crucial role in the pyruvate dehydrogenase multienzyme complex, which is essential for converting pyruvate into acetyl-CoA, a key metabolic intermediate that fuels the citric acid cycle. This function is vital for energy production and metabolic regulation in cells, particularly in tissues with high energy demands such as the heart and brain. The presence of autoantibodies against DLAT is a hallmark of primary biliary cirrhosis, a chronic autoimmune liver disease characterized by the destruction of bile ducts, leading to cholestasis and liver damage. DLAT features a unique structure with both an amino-terminal lipoyl-bearing domain and a carboxy-terminal catalytic domain, which are critical for enzymatic activity and interaction with other proteins in the metabolic pathway. |
