CD11c also known as Integrin αX, ITGAXi s a type 1 transmembrane protein that plays a crucial role in the immune response by forming a leukocyte-specific integrin when combined with the β2 chain, known as the inactivated-C3b receptor 4 (CR4). This integrin is essential for mediating the adherence of neutrophils and monocytes to activated endothelial cells, as well as facilitating the phagocytosis of complement-coated particles. CD11c enables dendritic cells, macrophages, and natural killer cells to migrate to lymphoid tissues and interact with T and B cells, thereby shaping the adaptive immune response. Abnormal expression of CD11c is associated with hairy cell leukemia, highlighting its significance in both normal immune function and disease states.
