| Product Description | |
4E-BP1 also known as EIF4EBP1 is a member of a family of translation repressor proteins. 4E-BP1 plays a crucial role in regulating protein synthesis by acting as a translational repressor. 4E-BP1 binds to eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (eIF-4E), preventing formation of the eIF-4F complex essential for translation initiation. Phosphorylation of 4E-BP1 by various kinases, such as S6 kinase p70, MAP kinases, or protein kinase C, leads to dissociation from eIF-4E, promoting translation of mRNAs critical for cell growth and proliferation. This regulatory mechanism is particularly important in cancer biology, where dysregulation of protein synthesis can contribute to tumorigenesis. 4E-BP1 also interacts with 4E-BP2, which modulates eIF-4E activity, highlighting the complexity of translational control in cellular processes. |
